It’s May which means Mother’s Day is coming soon. For many, this is a beautiful day when you get the opportunity to shower your mother with love and express your appreciation for all she sacrificed and continues to do for you. But for some people this day isn’t as joyous because their moms are no longer here.

As with a lot of holiday’s, Mother’s Day is definitely a big one, thus it is not a holiday that’s easily escaped. In every store you see big signs saying something about Mother’s Day is coming soon. You see sections and displays decorated nicely with various items that you can buy to give to your mom from beautiful picture frames to t shirts and other trinkets. Your email inbox is flooded with advertisements from stores and restaurants sharing news about Mother’s Day specials or sales. And for those who go to church, you see everyone with their mom sitting together in church, often times in matching colors or outfits. You watch as they ask all of the moms to stand and as they hand them flowers or other special gift items. And then, because of our social media driven world, you get online and see everyone’s posts about their moms and how they spent the day celebrating them.

Please don’t think I am saying these things are wrong or that this day isn’t special, as it is, but for some people this holiday isn’t as glorious. For me personally, I always have mixed emotions when this holiday comes as I miss my mom but I also smile smile knowing that one day I will be the mom that is being celebrated. But as an angel daughter, I have often felt as if angel daughters are forgotten during this holiday. And unless they make a long post on Facebook or go and put flowers on a grave, they don’t have many other ways to honor their mom since she isn’t here physically. So, I wanted to offer a space where this could be done. Therefore, this year, the DOMA blog, will have a special Mother’s Day feature entitled Letter’s to My Mom. Over the next three days, three guest bloggers letters to their mom will be featured and at the end of each blog will be an encouraging word to an angel daughter sister. These three letters will lead up to a very special letter that will be shared on Mother’s Day.

It is my hope and prayer that if you are an angel daughter, you realize that you are not forgotten and by reading the letters you may find a connection and feel compelled to write your own letter in honor of your mom. And to those who aren’t angel daughters, I pray that you will love on your mom as best as you can, show her tons of appreciation, truly make her feel special and that by reading these notes it will be a reminder for you of how blessed you are to still have your mom here with you. I look forward to reading all of your comments on the future blogs and pray that no matter your circumstance, each person has a beautiful Mother’s Day. Don’t forget to check back each day, over the next 4 days, to read each of the letters.

P.S. AN ENCOURAGING WORD TO MY ANGEL DAUGHTER SISTER

As you embark upon this weekend, I encourage you to take some time to yourself for selfcare. Allow yourself to feel whatever emotions you have and be gracious with yourself. And then I encourage you to find a special way to honor your mom this weekend.

A mother-daughter thing. My mom and her sister a few years ago on Mother’s Day with their daughters. Both of them are angel moms now that watch over us.
