My Mother, who was she?

My mother, who was she? She was the epitome of Proverbs 31:10-31.
She was beautiful, kind, gentle, classy, thoughtful, wise, loving, giving and strong! Did I mention she was beautiful? -- from her inner spirit to her outer spirit. She just was.
Her name was Irma Josephine Montgomery and she was the wife of George Montgomery. She was a wonderful mother to Cassandra, Kevin and Dawn. She was truly a great mom. She was the warmest, most thoughtful grandmother to Shaniqua, Kevin II (KG), Tyese, Charita and Jasmine. They truly adored their grandmother. When grandma knew they were coming to visit, she cooked their favorite meals. She was a great cook. Boy, what I would do to have a piece of that fried chicken or a piece of that fish!
God blessed her long enough to see the birth of her twin grandsons, Ryan and Jordan. She cheered us all on in her own special way!
She was also the mother to her nieces and nephews, some of which she adopted. No, not legally adopted, but lovingly. We'll start with Timothy who she bought into our home and raised him as her son. Alton, she stayed by his side, even when he was in the darkest places. She brought Quatisha into our home and raised her as her own. Most of her nieces and nephews went to "Aunt Irma" because they knew she would have a kind word or a solution to their problems or concerns.
She was my mother, my best friend next to Jesus, my confidante, my buddy, my travel partner, my navigator (before GPS) and my friend. Mom was my Saturday shopping buddy -- every Saturday, from store to store we went. We shopped!!
When dad got sick, she took care of him. She never wanted help. The strength of the Lord carried her through.
She then took care of her mother, laboring in both her home and her mother's home simultaneously. Irma had a full plate, but not one selfish bone.
In some of her last days, while she fought to live, she would lie her head on my shoulder and say "what would I do without you." I am sure there were many days I looked up to her and said the same thing to her. I am the woman I am today because of what she instilled in me.
My mom loved the Lord and had a gentle spirit, yet strong determination like Jesus.
My mother, who was she? She was all of these things. Yes, she was truly a Proverbs 31 woman.
Today would have been my mom’s 90th birthday…Happy Heavenly Birthday Mom!
My mom has been gone twenty years now, but she will never, ever be forgotten!
Love,
Dawn
